When gearing up for the Japow Tour at Hakkoda here is quick check list of thing to consider. Many of these items you can purchase or rent at the Misawa Outdoor Rec Center on the Misawa Air Base. 
Items in red are a must have, if we take tours off the Backside of the Ropeway. If you do not have these items we will be limited in our powder stash options. Avalanche Beacon/ Shovel/ Probe will be required at all times. 


* I will have 5 sets of Beacon/ Shovel/ Probe rentals for clients of Japow Tours to use.


  • Powder Board (don't worry, I provide the board and bindings for Tours)
  • Backpack for carrying Snowboard. 
  • Beacon
  • Shovel
  • Probe
  • Snowshoes
  • Collapsable hiking poles
  • Sunglasses for hiking on sunny days
  • Goggles
  • Sunscreen 
  • Helmet and warm knitted cap (helmet is optional, but preferred)
  • Facemask for the faceshots
  • Gortex outer shell jacket and pants
  • Snacks: maybe a snickers or powerbar
  • Water
  • Synthetic layering (NO COTTON)
  • Emergency blanket 
  • Extra socks, gloves, goggles etc.
  • Camera!
